The Swords Into Plowshares Peace Center of Kalamazoo works to educate and empower students by providing the tools, knowledge and space necessary for mobilizing around social justice issues and creating effective and positive changes in our community and on our campus.
By acting in solidarity on a local level, we hope to contribute to the achievement of social, environmental and economical justice world wide.
Goals of the Peace Center
Offer a centralized hub for student activism on the campus of Western Michigan University where students and youth can convene to learn about current campaigns and opportunities to engage themselves in local and global movements.
Maintain a resource center including the Activist’s Library, a network of experienced organizers, and basic materials needed for direct action organizing.
Maintain a physical space for students and others to gather, hold meetings, and educate themselves.
Increase civic engagement by encouraging voting and other forms of active political participation in Kalamazoo and beyond.
Facilitate consistency, support and training for the ever-changing face of student leadership at Western Michigan University.
