Lisa Batten became director in July 2007 after serving on the Wesley's Board of Directors for three years. Previously, Lisa had worked at Center Park United Methodist as the administrative assistant.
Lisa has enjoyed working in Children and Youth Ministry. She has served as the Children's coordinator at her local church. She loves the enthusiasm and spontaneity of children and their openness to God's love for them. More recently, Lisa has led Youth Ministry and has been part of a team that has developed a Youth Ministry model for her local church. Lisa hopes that this model, when implemented, will be a pathway for youth to deepen their relationship with Christ.
Lisa experienced a call to ordained ministry in the fall of 1999, and has been discerning this call through the candidacy process. She plans to attend seminary and feels a strong call to the ministry of family. Lisa and her husband have been married for 19 years. They have three children and enjoy being involved in their activities. She continues to discern how God is calling her to balance her call to ordained ministry with her call to the ministry of family.
Lisa became connected with the Wesley Foundation in the fall of 2000, when she began attending WMU as a non-traditional student. Wesley provided a place to study and relax between classes, an enjoyable an inexpensive lunch at the Fireside Café, and chats with the Director. Lisa later was invited to serve on the Board of Directors and felt a strong connection with Campus Ministry.
Lisa believes that the college years can be some of the most exciting times in a person's life. There is an abundance of change, an opportunity for learning, and a chance to grow as an individual. Lisa thinks that young adults who are actively seeking God and an authentic faith experience in this time of their lives are amazing!
Lisa enjoys travel and two of her favorite vacation destinations are Mexico, for its beauty and warmth, and Germany because her mother's family lives there. She feels a deep connection with her German heritage and her family who live there. She enjoys seeing new places and learning about new cultures.
Lisa was baptized in February of 2000 at Center Park United Methodist Church. She is grateful for her family of faith at Center Park for their ongoing encouragement, support, and affirmation.
